Coming to work in New Zealand

Back to Retail Blog

Hi, I am looking to come to New Zealand in the next few months. I have been looking for jobs as a manager or assistant manager in the field of tourism and hospitality, and I saw a couple of job offers that you have listed on the SEEK web page. I would like to learn more about your programs and the hiring companies, so I can write the appropriate cover letter, and send it along with my CV in the application. Thank you for your time and help

Before you write your cover letter you need to check out the website of the company you are applying for and the person you need to direct the letter to so you write an accurate and effective cover letter stating why you would like to work for that business.  Ensure that you include in your cover letter your date of arrival and the visa you have or what you need from your employer to gain a visa in order to legally work in New Zealand (you will need to contact NZ Immigration to find this information out: www.immigration.govt.nz/). You will find that most employers will respond asking you to be in contact once you arrive as they require face- to- face interviews.  In your CV ensure that you explain what the businesses are that you have worked for overseas as they may not know about your company- the best way to do this can often be to include the website address. Your CV also needs to be very clear in terms of the roles you have held, your specific responsibilities and significant achievements. The best way to do this is in bullet point form.
